Mackerel
The King Mackerel is a migratory species of fish that ranges from the Gulf of Mexico to the Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.
The King Mackerel can range in size from five to thirty lbs. per fish but are capable of exceeding over ninety pounds!
The greyish meat of the Mackerel is primarily sold as whole pieces, fillets or steaks.
The season for King Mackerel is the shortest of all the commercial fishing seasons in the Florida Keys; it is over in less than a week on average. The species quota for the 2012/2013 King Mackerel fishing season is 3.8 million pounds.
King Mackerel is traditionally caught with gill nets and traditional hook/line methods.

- Key West Fishing Tournament
- Nearly 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). In a March kickoff event, anglers target 15 species and $5,000 in cash prizes is split between the top anglers.
